The Protector
May I protect my heart
As a newborn being
Care for her needs,
so tenderly seeing
May I hold my heart
Swaddling her tightly
As the cruelty & chaos
Batter, hold her brightly
May I carry my heart
As an innocent baby
Cupping joy, anger, grief,
Caressing worry & weep
May I take care of my heart,
raw & raging
To sustain compassion
Loving all-that-is—
A Spiritual marathon of Life’s waging
