Picnic Blanketing

Shaking out the fabric

Woven of fall, winter, spring

Laying upon the earth

with blossoms of summer’s cherries, dessert yet to arrive

Picnic blanketing with you—

Dropping to our knees in devotion to Nature’s beauty

Nourished by breeze, humbled by the pollinators

We will drink upon the sun

Unwrapping all the sandwiches

Made from shredded heartache & fermented joy,

Remembering story slices & questions once raw, now fully cooked

Laying out the basket of our prayers

we have both held for the world’s well being from before we even met

Like vintage bottling

Perhaps…

The love spread picnic blanketing

here with you today

will pour into another’s glass,

in another time, on another’s table…

May all beings be happy

May all beings feel free

May all beings know joy

May all beings find peace

Perhaps…

All I know is our earthwork together

Feeds the hunger for belonging

Seeds the hope for community peace

Blankets us in love

Spreads a contagion of our joy
